Elven written language is magical by nature. Depending on the complexity of the topic, it is n-dimensional. A typical simple writing is at least three dimensional and generally includes movement of some type. This means that a large portion of the information is lost when Elven is translated into another language. Translating Elven into common is an very difficult and often leads to a great many errors – which could account, a bit, for mankind’s poor understanding of the Elves.

All Elven maps are poems. The form is well defined and understood by elves and conveys more meaning than people realize. Not only do elven maps show a location but they also often hold large amounts of additional information that is lot if the maps is ever translated. It also helps ensure that only Elves or those fluent in Elvish can identify and their maps.
